How to register your nickname and vhost on IRC
If you visit a certain IRC network regularly it's nice to have your own, personal nickname registered - This also allows you to ghost or kick people who are using your nickname.
As an additional touch you can also assign a vhost to your nickname, a vhost replaces your hostmask.
Here's an example of my registered nickname and vhost.
Code:
mcompute ([email protected]) has joined #channel
How to register your nickname:
/msg nickserv REGISTER password email
How to register a vhost
/msg hostserv REQUEST vhost.any.thing
How to GHOST a registered nickname
/msg nickserv GHOST nickname password
How to identify with your registered nickname
Now, when you join a channel you simply type.
/msg NickServ IDENTIFY password
And it will identify your registered nickname and vhost. (I set that command to automatically run when i join networks that i'm registered with.)
How to put enable your vhost
Once you've requested your vhost it needs to be accepted by the network administrator, once it is you can type.
/msg hostserv ON
To turn it on.
For more help, enter the following commands in your IRC client.
/msg nickserv HELP
/msg hostserv HELP
