I have been quite pleased since I purchased my Cisco SRW2016 switch a few months back. I got it at an auction for $150.00 and it has been beautiful. I had been looking for gigabit switch with layer 3 functionality for a year or so, but I didn't want to pay $900.00. It has built in 802.1x authentication protocol so even if someone hooks into a RJ-45 jack in the guest room it isolates them on a private segmented network that can't interact with my LAN. I set the security up just like I would for one of my corporate clients. I use my NTOP box for monitoring bandwidth and network activity/security logging. NTOP has become my go to box for network analysis. I actually built a small form pc (6in X 10in X 10in)running Ubuntu with NTOP that I bring with me whenever I go and start a security audit. Just a few perks is I have found people from within corporations committing espionage, as well as caught about a dozen hackers who were sticking their nose where it didn't belong in just the last year. "incorrect, little fella." latch responded, as he thought about practicality and how much his time is worth. |
