How can I add a SATA Hard Disk? - andrewsmt - 19-10-2010

Currently I’m using 40 Gigabyte IDE Hard disk. Recently I bought 500 Gigabyte SATA Hard disk for my use. But the problem is SATA hard disk not recognizes as master. OS also installed in my IDE hard disk I want to do my new SATA hard disk as master. Can I do this? If yes how?

I'm assuming you have SATA connectors on your motherboard? Unlike IDE drives, with SATA drives you do not have to set master, slave or cs manually. Try removing the IDE all together and then just plugging the SATA in, boot in to the BIOS and see if it's recognised.

I have read about your this of the problem and would like to say you that I am installing as below. Hopefully it may also help you for installing that :
- Install disk in machine.
- Connect power and data cables to disk.
- Go into BIOS and check SATA controller is enabled.
- Watch for disk listing at boot.
- After XP loads do: Control Panel > Admin Tools > Computer Management.
- Double click Disk Management. You'll see all disks on the machine.
- Right click on the new disk button (on the left). Select activate.
- Right click on the new disk panel (on the right). Select partition.
