Troubleshooting problems with Windows Search and Indexing

These are just some steps that you can take to trouble problems in Windows with Windows Search and the Indexing service.

To check that the feature is enabled, you can do below.

  1. Go the to control panel
  2. Programs and Features
  3. On the left hand side, click "Turn Windows Features on or off"
  4. Another box should appear. (see below)

In here you want to look for "Windows Search" and "Indexing Service". Make sure they're both ticked then click OK.

  5. You may need to restart your PC.
  • Another thing you can check is service.msc and check that both of the services are running.

  • Also check if Indexing on your drive is enabled.. My Computer, right click a drive, propeties and tick "Allow files on the drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties"

  • If you go in to My Computer and search for something in the top search bar it may also prompt you to enable Indexing which you can try.

If there's a problem with Indexing it can also affect other programs such as Microsoft Outlook and searching for emails..

If that doesn't work you can rebuild the windows index.

Could also rename OST so it re-download a fresh copy.
