And 2nd Gen was all right pokemon wise, unlike the follow-ons

Well, technically no, it was a flase assumption. But some clever Jap dudes went and made a Mewthree, and it's evolution Mewthree X.
It basically couldn't faint, no matter what you threw at it

That's one hell of an old beast. 8-bit era. It was like Atari's 5th console. 1983 I recall.
